Joseph Edward Spires

Born in Augusta, Georgia in 1970. Attended Richmond Academy graduating in 1988. Attended Augusta College from 1988 to 1992. Graduated with a Math and Physics Degree. Attended John Marshall Law School from 1994 to 1996. Graduated Magna Cum Laude. Worked as an associate in a bankruptcy firm from 1997 to 2000 and opened Ward and Spires, LLC in January of 2000 specializing in Bankruptcy, Workers' Compensation and personal injury. Attends Warren Baptist Church, Married for 14 Years with 2 children.

I have worked as a paralegal, law clerk and attorney handling bankruptcy cases and social security cases for 19 years. From 2002 to 2008, I was appointed by the Georgia Attorney General to represent the interest of the State of Georgia as a Special Assistant Attorney General in the area of Workers' Compensation. I have experience litigating Plaintiff's cases as well as defending cases in Workers' Compensation hearings which gives me the experience to foresee the Employer's defense to a claim and to assist an injured employee with obtaining the benefits he or she is entitled.

As my father was a mill worker with Graniteville Company for over 40 years, I understand that individuals can work hard, but still be in financial crisis.

I focus primarily on Social Security Disability Claims, which are based on an individual's work history and what he or she has paid into his or her disability fund in the years prior to the disability event or illness.
